"Income Sources"

Welcome to NAMI Illinois' discussion groups, "Communicate." Here's your opportunity to learn what others are talking about and to share your opinion and ask questions.

Good communications is the heart of any relationship and this includes your relationship with NAMI (National, State and local Affiliates).  NAMI Illinois is starting a new service for its members and local chapters called "Communicate."  Its purpose is to share helpful information. In order to do this you can ask questions for problems you have or you can share information that has been helpful to you and/or your organization.

"Income Sources"

This area allows all NAMI members and affiliates to share fundraising information to expand efforts to finance NAMI programs.

Silver Ribbons - Posted 8-4-07

Peggy Enquist from Personalized Threads (peggy@personalized-threads.com) made NAMI silver ribbons that may be something NAMI affiliates would like to sell.  They look like the pink breast cancer ribbons, only they are silver, embroidered with a pin on the back.

Resale Shop - Posted 7-23-07

Our local hospital has a downtown resale shop whose monies go back to the hospital.  Administration has yet to be able to tell me how much $ are allocated for behavioral health purposes.  Hmmmmm..

This is a good idea and I've seen it started in business magazines for social service causes.

Our homeless shelter just started one so I don't know that I would want to compete with them.

Might you be looking for an easy source of generating revenue for your affiliate?  2-21-06

Clover Technologies Division, Core Recycling, collects ink jet printer cartridges and toner.  They send out the boxes for each product.  Simply put in about 10-15 ink jet cartridges in the one box and mail back.  The toner box needs about 150 before it is sent back.  The boxes are digitized with a code and the postage is PREPAID!
All they ask is that the boxes are filled with the quantity of products they are requesting so they can set you up on an account and forward payment promptly.

Can't beat it.

UPDATE on RECYCLING PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND TONER: May 31, 2006

NAMI North Central Illinois received their first check in April for $80.00 in exchange for HP Printer Cartridges.  Depending on whether or not they are damaged determines the payment.  This particular batch averaged about $4.00 per cartridge.

This was easy money for us!  And there's another batch in process.

Philanthropy Centers 1-12-06

NAMI DuPage applied for funding from United Way as well as from the local community foundations.  We use the Center for Philanthropy at College of DuPage to find more grants.  There are Philanthropy Centers at other local colleges.

Question on grants for local affiliates 9-9-05

I understand there are grants that some local NAMI groups have applied.  Can we get information about those grants?

Also, I have heard that there is a template available for grant application.  Can we get it posted to a web site so each local NAMI, that is interested, could apply?

Last of all, can we get a list of open grants with description (or web site for full information about the grant)?

Thanks, Pat for the tip on Thrivent.  One of our NAMI members sends spiritual e-cards to me from them.  I will look into this.
