NAMI National
Releases Guide on Evidence Based Practices
We now know far more about the
most effective treatments for many early-onset mental illnesses. Yet, these
interventions often fail to reach those children and families who need them
most. The failure to use effective treatment interventions outside of academic
and research centers has widened the gap between what we know works and what is
done in clinical practice.
NAMI National’s
Child & Adolescent
Action
Center
is working with NAMI Illinois to develop a family network to promote the
broader availability of evidence-based practices in children’s mental health.
We are working to better educate and inform families about research and
evidence-based practices in children’s mental health because we know that
educated and informed families are in the best position to advocate for the most
effective interventions for their child.
NAMI National recently released a
family guide on evidence-based practices titled: Choosing the Right Treatment: What Families Need to Know About
Evidence-Based Practices. This guide is designed to inform families about
evidence-based practices in children’s mental health and to share information
on an array of treatment and support options.
Knowledge is power and informed parents are in the best position to
advocate for the most effective treatment and supports for their child and
family.
The guide covers the following topics:
 | What
are Evidence-Based Practices? |
 | How
to Talk with Providers about Treatment Choices and Evidence-Based Practices? |
 | What
are Current Evidence-Based Practices in Children’s Mental Health? |
 | What
About Other Promising Practices in Children’s Mental Health? |
 | How
Can
Families Help Drive
and Become More Involved in the Broader Dissemination of Evidence-Based
Practices? |
 | Resources
on Evidence-Based Practices |
NAMI National has provided NAMI Illinois with an abundant supply of the
family guides to help ensure that the guide reaches families throughout
Illinois
